Hi all!  I haven’t been posting much as the family, job, affairs and house have been keeping me busy but, I still find time to get out and hunt.  So many fields are open and so little time, LOL.  Have done several hunts lately so I went through the bags and dug out some interesting relics.  A few buttons.

A broken silver ring, 1937 brass/aluminum 5 Pfennig coin and a German WWII military button with a strange backing, a first for me.  The button cleaned up nice.

A few buckles I have not dated.

Six lead seals.

I always find plenty of musket balls but every once in awhile an unusual ball pops up.  This extra large ball, 23mm or 1-1/8”, iron filled lead coating, was fired from a small shoulder cannon called a hook gun (hackenbuechse), it had a hook on it that was mounted over a wall to absorb the recoil.

Several relics.

An interesting horn or bugle.  The shank is bent and is seen above the horn.  My first thoughts were military but I have not researched it.

Two nice weights.  Left is a cube with a Dram/Drachm ℥ symbol, an “S” and bottom has a “1 CZ” and weighs 14 grams.  Right is a bowl weight, shaped to fit inside the next size weight so they stacked within each other.  It weighs 16 grams and has a “1” and a small hallmark in the bottom.  I have found nearly two complete sets of these now.  Both weights use a style of a “1” I would place into the 1700s.

Three silver coins, left is a 3 Kreuzer 1723 from Bavarian King Maxmilian Emanuel, looks to have been made into a button.  Date is at the 0700 (17) 0600 (3) 0500 (23).  An 1853 and an 1835.

Reverse of the coins.

My best find in awhile, obverse of a silver 1562 hammered.  Ugly and broken but old, LOL.  There is a small chance it could be milled as Germany was developing coin mills around this time period.  I am not sure what it is yet, have to research it.

Hi Mike,

thanks for sharing! Too bad the coin broken! A real pitty!

I think the Hackebüchse musketball is a pretty rare find, too. Congratulations!

Regards,

Christian
