I went on a guided tour with our historical society Sunday. We were in search of a site where an old town or large farm once stood from 1150-1364. About 50 people in all. Our most knowledgeable Historian in the area was our guide and he is really interesting. He showed me some maps and pictures of the area where the field was and a picture of well defined squares in the crops. I suspected where he was taking us and he lead us right to a field where I have had permission to detect for about 4 years now. I have only found relics and coins from the 1800s to WWII and a broken 1765 silver coin. The soil here is strange, sandy and very airy. I suspect anything old must be under the plow line. It was a lot of fun and I renewed my permission to detect there from the farmer, gained a few more areas of interest to detect and will be having a meeting with our Historian as he told me he has a long list for me and old maps he will copy. And it is all close to home. Here is the field, the buildings were to the upper right of the deer stand. Behind the deer stand is a row of trees, this is an old cart road.

I climbed the deer stand and took a few pictures, could not see any markings in the field as it was just plowed and seeded a few weeks ago. This is the cart road, you can see how it curves along the field in the background.

Petschaft...
I did a hunt Saturday with a local MD friend. We hit three new fields and we both found a few interesting relics and 1800s coins. A small knife handle, broken beer token, cross pendant, lead seal, broken thimble and a small knife butt from the handle. The knife butt dates to the 1500-1600s, I have seen them with dates on them but have not found one with a date.

Petschaft...
A Heller copper coin, not sure of the date, looks 1864 but it may be 1764. A button with a nice star on it, mid 1700s to mid 1800s.

Petschaft...
Found this awesome seal matrix Sunday after the historical seminar. Hit a favorite field for just over an hour and also found the broken beer token. This is the second seal matrix from this field and around 25 beer tokens. The seal has a nice vase of flowers and the initials I.M. Probably dates from the 1700-1800s.

Petschaft...
Top of the seal, handle is broken off. American dime for size reference, it is a smaller seal matrix.

Petschaft...
The seal stamped into some clay. HH, Mike
